Privacy notice
The short version: I only keep what you choose to send me, I use it only to reply or send you my newsletter, and I never sell or share it.
This website belongs to Michael Jordan, a wildlife photographer based in Nottingham Road, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. This notice explains what personal information the site collects and how it's looked after, in line with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
Who is responsible
Michael Jordan is the responsible party for your information. You can reach me at [email protected] or through the contact page.
What I collect, and why
- When you send a message through the contact form: your name, email address and what you write. I use it to reply to you and, if you ask about a print or licensing a photograph, to prepare a quote and keep a record of the order.
- When you subscribe to my newsletter: your email address. I use it only to send you new field notes and news, a few times a year.
- When you visit the site: simple, anonymous visitor counts: which pages were viewed, the country (from Cloudflare), the type of device and the website that sent you. No cookies are used for this and your IP address is not stored. Each visitor is counted using a code that changes every day, so nobody can be followed from one day to the next. These counts are deleted after about 13 months.
The site sets no advertising or tracking cookies. The only cookie is a small, temporary one that keeps the contact and newsletter forms secure.
Who else sees it
Nobody, apart from the services that make the site work: Cloudflare, which protects the site and delivers its pages, and my email provider, which delivers emails. I never sell, rent or give your information to anyone else, and I don't use it for advertising.
How long I keep it
- Messages: for as long as they're useful for our conversation, and up to five years for print and licensing orders (for my own records).
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe. Every newsletter has a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops all emails straight away.
Your rights
Under POPIA you can ask to see the information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Just send me a message. If you're unhappy with how your information has been handled, you can also contact South Africa's Information Regulator at inforegulator.org.za.
Keeping it safe
The site only works over a secure (HTTPS) connection, the admin area is protected, and backups are encrypted.
